      MOADT maintains a significant number of collections pertaining to the Advanced Design philosophy. These include telephony, radio & television, motion picture film, small and large appliances, as well as computing machinery, office equipment, and everything in between.

      It is our sincere desire to establish a physical location where this technology can be preserved and shared for the future, and those plans are underway. We look forward to working with similarly-minded organizations and individuals in pursuit of this goal.

This is a series of instructional vignettes, ostensibly shot for individual film cartridges to educate and test the salesman.       How to Sell the Maytag Dishwasher – "Take a Closer Look!" c.1969
      Now, for something completely different...Johnny & Ed shill for Whirlpool. Here's a smattering of WP commercials and pitches for the upcoming ABC season, including The Julie Andrews Show, Love American Style, Flip Wilson, and the Wonderful World of Disney. I'd say that puts this right around fall of 1972. End-capped with a classic Carson clip. About this film: 16mm print with severe red-shift, appears some sections duped from the kine process. End clip no doubt 3 or 4 generations removed from original (video to film...and back again?). Shifted color to neutral and de-noised image.

      Did you know the Maytag A106 was referred to as The Scotsman? Well now you do. Here's a couple 30-second TV spots rescued from 16mm film.

      The release of the Maytag Supermatics in 1954 (101P) put a little styling into the original design, and to advertise the new model, Maytag had a number of coast-to-coast promotions. Besides truckloads of Maytags and trainloads of Maytags, "Operation 64" had dealers' keep their stores open round-the-clock for 64 hours straight while publicizing locally on TV, radio and newspapers.       A rather famous WP 30-second spot from 1981 known as "The Promise". This is from badly faded 16mm film, I did what I could.

      In 1966, Whirlpool was the recipient of the Sears Excellence Award, no doubt for one of their Kenmore appliance lines. Note the comment that through 1967, Sears planned on opening a new store, one every week! Unfortunately, the name of the gentleman in this film is not listed. In an attempt to bring a little life to a rather dull, but informative, film, I decided to leave this one "raw". In its day, a regular 16mm projector would have masked this down considerably. The only thing I've done is software stabilize the image set.

      "Quick, find me an out of work carnival barker!" What an...interesting...way to promote a vacuum cleaner line. In 1957, Whirlpool-Seeger merged with Birtman Electric Company of Chicago, adding vacuum cleaners to its product lines, and reverted back to the name Whirlpool Corp. They phased out the Chicago facilities and transferred production to St. Paul, MN. I guess this was their way of promoting brand awareness. This piece also opens with star Fran Allison, of Kukla, Fran & Ollie fame. About this film: 16mm print, original color. Frame-by-frame scan, denoised and released in 2k resolution.

      Introduced in June 1956, the Highlander series targeted cost-conscious buyers that wanted Maytag quality, but were willing to live without additional frills and features. With helical-drive, they were very dependable, and over time these models moved upmarket with the Super-Highlander series. Often forgotten, the name was reprised in the 1970's for the BOL automatics. Capitalizing on the Scottish "thrifty" theme, dealers nation-wide decorated store fronts, display machines, and even flashy automobiles with tartan patterns as part of the sales promotion.
