The Museum of Advanced Design & Technology

    MOADT is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving legacy technology for future generations.

    Our Goal

    • To collect, preserve and display items of historic technological merit, with an emphasis on innovative design and engineering. 

    •To educate the public on technological progress through displays and museum partnerships.

    •To collaborate with other non-profit organizations to assist with the preservation of their own collections, including at-risk media. 

    Collections

    The Museum maintains significant off-site collections relating to obsolete electrical and mechanical technology that deserve to be recognized. You’ll find the magneto wall phone and butter churn in just about every pioneer museum across our great land. But where is the ode to the G3 handset? Or the IBM Model D Executive? This is what we intend to bring together.

    In addition, MOADT celebrates appliance innovation prior to consolidation and cost reduction. You’ll find the largest collection of vintage automatic washers and dryers in the midwest, including prototype machines. Some fully restored and operating. And fans of the iconic Radarange Microwave Oven will not be disappointed, with every model represented from 1967 to 1981.

    Capabilities

    MOADT maintains the capability to digitize obsolete media formats, including 16mm film with optical or magnetic sound. VHS, Beta and 3/4″ U-Matic with direct RF-modulated Domesday hardware. MiniDV, LD and Video-8. 1/4″ mag tape, compact cassette, as well as 4T and 8T cartridges. 400k, 800k and HD 3.5″ diskettes. Punched paper tape and IBM 80-column punch cards can also be digitized.

    Partnerships

    MOADT is dedicated to media preservation. We are currently collaborating with The Appliance Archive to digitize and upload rare and at-risk films related to vintage appliances. New videos are uploaded weekly.
